My 5 Cheeky Rules for Owning the Gap

by Vivian Vale, 55

Honey, after his buddies started calling me ma'am at that rooftop bar I just laughed and owned every inch of it.

The whole night felt lighter once I quit apologizing for the seventeen years between us.

  1. Claim the title. They say ma'am and I answer with a wink that says trouble. Works every single time.
  2. Wear the years. Red lipstick, velvet dress, bare shoulders. Let the whole room stare and wonder.
  3. Never explain. He leans in for a kiss at dinner. I kiss him back twice as hard right there.
  4. Laugh first. His friends choke on their drinks. I just order another round and grin.
  5. Keep them guessing. One minute sweet as pie. Next I'm pure wicked. He never knows which Vivian shows up.

Sweetie, the gap looks better on me than it ever did on him.
